How to read these pages

Every charging point has a power rating in kW, which decides how long a stop takes, and one or more connector types, which decide whether your car can use it at all. In Spain almost every modern car charges on Type 2 for slow charging and CCS for rapid charging; CHAdeMO appears mostly on older Nissan and Mitsubishi models.

The classes used throughout: Standard up to 22 kW, typical for street and car park charging over several hours; Rapid from 50 kW, enough for a coffee stop; Ultra-rapid above 150 kW, which adds most of a battery in around twenty minutes.

How many public charging points does Spain have?

This directory lists 20,518 public charging locations across 52 provinces. A location can hold several sockets, so the number of individual connectors is considerably higher. The figures come from OpenChargeMap and OpenStreetMap and are refreshed regularly.

Where are the rapid chargers?

6,719 of the listed points (33%) deliver 50 kW or more. They cluster along the motorway corridors and around Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia; the interior provinces are thinner. Each province page shows its own split.

Do I need a different card for each network?

Spain has 79 operators in this dataset, and roaming between them is still uneven. Most drivers end up carrying two or three apps. See the network comparison for which ones cover what.
